Flong Tax Service, founded in 1968 by Frances Long, FLong Tax Service
was a business with a big heart.
Frances - called "FLong" by her friends and family served a diverse population;
at any given time,
textile mill employees, musicians, retirees,
TV reporters, physicians,
professors, or college presidents could be found sitting before her desk.
She possessed the unique ability to make everyone feel as though they were part
of her highly valued, extended family.
Belmont was somewhat more rural in the 60s; Frances' office on Wilkinson Blvd (where
the new Wal-Mart
now stands) was once surrounded by heavily treed, undeveloped land.
When she first opened, a man hunting rabbits stumbled upon her building; he entered
(carrying his shotgun). Nonplussed she said, "what the he** are you doing?".
His response: "Hunting rabbits; what the he** are YOU doing?". When
she simply said she had started a new tax service, he said "Oh great; I need to
have mine done". And so began a client relationship that would last until
Frances' death in 2005.
Today, Frances' daughter Denise and her husband, Mack, carry on the tradition of
person-focused tax service. They don't just have client files; they have stories
- real people looking to experience the same caring attention that Flong doled out
for over forty years.
